The first car is a Tesla Model 3 AWD Performance that is sporting upgrades from German complete car tuner- Startech. The Model 3 is a very common platform nowadays and the Performance AWD variant is the one popular with enthusiasts. 

With so many aftermarket options available for the Model 3, it’s hard to find a kit that stands out. Luckily, our customer picked the Startech kit due to its aggressive yet clean design and rarity, since only a select few are believed to have this kit in Singapore.

The kit installed consists of a more sportier and sharper Startech front bumper with additional fog lights from Startech as well.

The sportier theme continues on the rear end where we find a Startech rear bumper with an integrated diffuser finished off with a Startech rear spoiler.

Those who have a keen eye will notice that this Model 3 is sitting lower than its factory ride height. This is achieved thanks to a KW Variant 3 coilover suspension upgrade that we also installed at our workshop.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have a Volvo V60 R-Design wagon that is equipped with the best parts from renowned Volvo tuner- Heico Sportiv.

If you’re in the Volvo scene for quite some time, Heico is definitely a brand that you’ve heard of. Their history with the brand spans close to three decades which makes them one of the top complete car tuner brands for Volvo cars.

Here we installed the complete Heico bodykit for the V60 R-Design which consists of a 2-piece front spoiler flaps with a central air intake below the lower grill.

A Heico rear diffuser was also installed along with four tail pipes in black chrome to finish the rear end of the wagon.

Lastly, this car should perform as good as it looks so we also installed a few go-fast bits into the mix. Better throttle response is taken care of by the DTE PedalBox throttle controller and a 29HP and 75Nm increase in horsepower and torque is from a DTE PowerControl X chiptuning module. Finishing off the engine mods is a Sprint Filter P08 performance drop-in filter to ensure improved air flow.

For the 2014 to 2018 built BMW M3 sedan (F80) and the 2014 to 2020 manufactured BMW M4 Coupé we are now offering ST coilover components.

Besides ST coilover springs, ST wheel spacers and the rebound adjustable ST XTA coilover kit, the ST XTA plus 3 coilover kit will be launched shortly before the Tuning World Bodensee 2022 starts.

Compared to other ST coilovers, an individual adjustment of the ST XTA plus damper setup is possible within a few steps. Due to the broad possibility to separately adjust compression and rebound, the ST coilover kit takes almost every street setup preference into account.

With the adjustable rebound, the spring deflection during load changes is influenced. The compression in combination with the spring rate affects the immersion speed of the piston rod in the damper.

Additionally, the compression has an impact on the nodding and rolling of the body and the steering behavior. In performance coilovers such as the ST XTA plus 3 coilover kit, the highspeed and lowspeed parameters refer to the movement speed of the piston rod while deflecting.

Slow piston rod speeds are typical steering motions and braking before curves while fast piston rod speeds occur due to street irregularities and transversal joints.

With 24 clicks, the lowspeed and highspeed compression is adjusted. In the lowspeed rebound, 16 clicks can be made.

In the BMW M3 (F80) and the BMW M4 (F82), the top mounts at the front axle struts are a fixed component of the scope of delivery. Thanks to them, the steering becomes more precise as with dome bearing with rubber-metal elements. Additionally, the ST dome bearing helps to adjust the wheel camber.

Such as with all ST coilover springs and ST coilover kits the ST XTA plus 3 coilover kit is part of the so-called Make it Yours program. The customer can choose between 18 surface colors and order the ST XTA plus 3 at retailers or directly at the coilover manufacturer. Additionally, individual labeling of the springs is possible.

For the ST XTA plus 3 coilover kit for the BMW M3 (F80) and the BMW M4 (F82), optional spring packages are in the pipeline. These are springs with a different spring rate to adapt the ST XTA plus 3 to body lightweight modifications.

According to the parts certificate, the M3 sedan (F80) and the M4 coupe (F82) can be continuously lowered between 15 and 40 millimeters on both axles.

To get your hands on these special KW coilovers it can get a little complicated: Most times they are directly sold at the retailer store. Specially manufactured coilovers won’t be found in our online shop.

Not only people who are interested in the JDM but also simple car lovers value the cult character of the 1989-1994 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32). This is one of the reasons why we couldn’t resist developing adjustable ST XTA plus 3 coilovers for this car.

After its launch, the all-wheel GT-R with 280 hp outpaced some of the most successful cars in the sportscar segment. In year 1989 the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 took only 8:22.38 minutes to circle the world-famous Nordschleife at Nurburgring – this was already over three decades ago!

In times gone by, Nissan developed the GT-R (R32) to compete against other Group A racing cars. The two-door car was offered for the Japanese market only. Every Nissan GT-R (R32) seen in North America, Europa and Germany were imported vehicles from JDM enthusiasts.

According to that given fact, it was difficult to purchase a coilover with included parts certificate in Germany. Cheap alternatives often led to a downgrade of the performance or didn’t meet the expectations of its owners. The registration into vehicle papers without existing parts certification turned out to be difficult as well.

The ST XTA plus 3 coilover is manufactured directly at the KW automotive headquarter in Germany. The coilover kit with its dampers can be adjusted to three different stages. Linear racing sports springs and aluminium top mounts are included. We assemble all our products order-related in Fichtenberg.

On both axles, the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) has MacPherson struts. This is why every ST XTA plus 3 coilover has aluminium strut mounts. Cambering is therefore not possible.

Every ST height adjustable springs and ST coilover suspension kit is part of the so-called “Make it Yours” customization program. This is why our colleague Michael Dyballa from the development department demonstrates the ST XTA Plus 3 with red springs.

When purchasing an ST coilover suspension kit you can choose between 18 different RAL-color tones. Furthermore, the springs can be labeled individually.

Spring kits allow choosing another spring rate than recommended

In the course of the ST “Make It Yours”-Programme selected coilover kits such as the ST XTA plus 3 for the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) can be equipped with optional spring kits. With help of different spring lengths and spring rates, they enable further adjustments to the driver’s preferences.

But even without an extra spring kit, the plain ST XTA plus 3 offers endless possibilities for the GT-R. Similar to KW V4 clubsport or KW V4 coilovers they have three-way adjustable dampers. This leads to a smooth and modern driving dynamic in the 1989 to 1994 Japanese Coupé.

Within a few clicks, the high-speed and low-speed compression can be adjusted individually. Separately adjustable high-speed and low-speed compression forces are beneficial: the spring deflection characteristic between fast and slow vertical acceleration can be taken into account.

Those fast movements occur when driving over short bumps, transverse grooves or bad pavement. There’s an old saying in the racing segment that goes as follows: When setting the coilover the low-speed is everything the driver does, the high-speed is everything the street does.

Via the small black wheel, the strut tension of the high-speed compression force valve can be adjusted with several clicks. To adjust the low-speed needle valve the golden wheel needs to be turned. Both can be adjusted within up to 24 clicks. When the compression valves are opened, deflecting becomes easier. When the compression valves are closed, strut deflection becomes tighter.

Compression forces are also influenced by the body roll when turning in and the pitching behavior when braking and accelerating. The 16 clicks in the rebound force help to adjust the handling of the Skyline GT-R (R34) more directly. This should not be mistaken with the often cited firmness adjustment.

The included parts certificate covers a continuous lowering of the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) from 45 to 65 millimeters on the front axle and 35 to 55 millimeters on the rear axle. Of course, the ST XTA plus 3 will be launched for more models.

Is a V8 always needed? No way. Nevertheless, we were in awe when we saw the Ford Mustang Mach-E for the first time. The car doesn’t look like a Mustang, and the SUV is fully electric.

For us at KW, it doesn’t matter whether we develop a coilover kit for cars with a conventional drive or with an electric drive. We have been developing various coilovers for several electric vehicles – not only as an accessory.

The Ford Supervan accelerates in two seconds from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. Like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the van also counts on electric motors.

We won’t participate in the discussion of whether electric mobility is good because we do not have a reason. With our coilover kits, we at KW can increase with our innovative suspension kits driving fun to almost every electric car.  We also developed a KW coilover kit for the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV.

Many that decide to buy an SUV – a so-called Sports Utility Vehicle – rarely drive off-road. Furthermore, many of them contact us to ask whether we have coilover kits for the Audi RSQ3, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Macan, Tesla Model Y, and many more.

All our customers desire more driving fun, and some want a car with a good stance. Since the electric SUV Mustang Mach-E has become increasingly popular in the US, the requests for coilover developments have increased.

In October 2022, Ford USA sold more Mustang Mach-E models than in 2021. The Mustang Mach-E overtook the latest Ford Mustang models with V8 and four-cylinder eco boost, referring to some US car registration statistics. In 2023 the seventh Ford Mustang generation will be launched. In Germany, the new Mustang model will be available in the Summer of 2023.

We currently offer our popular KW V3 coilover kit for the Mustang Mach-E. With the heavy electric SUV, our complex coilover technology used in the KW V3 can unfold itself entirely.

Coilover kits that are adjustable in compression and rebound aren’t only for motorsports or too complicated for amateurs. Nevertheless, there are many so-called social media- and forum engineers that know it all better. But people who have some real expertise in topics regarding suspensions and coilover setups know that most of those self-proclaimed experts are mostly more from the hardparking businees.

A damper that can be adjusted individually in compression and rebound has many more reserves to control dynamic vertical movements while driving. With dynamic vertical motions, the deflection of the wheel is addressed.

Basically, everybody with only a little coilover knowledge knows that dampers transform the motion energy of the coilover spring into thermal energy. Thanks to individual and separated settings, everybody can influence the driving characteristic of the Mach-E within a few simple steps.

The coilover setup is optimally pre-adjusted for the electric SUV when we manufacture the coilover. Nevertheless, every driver has a unique driving sensation, and one can take that kind of sensation into account with the KW V3. Simply said, the task of the rebound is to connect the chassis of the Mustang to the road. The compression has an influence on the deflection of the springs and supports the body of the car.

When you adjust the rebound valve in the KW V3 with the adhuster knob on the piston rod, it significantly impact your vehicle’s handling. Depending on your preference, your Ford can either steer more responsively or feel slightly more indirect with the 16 click steps. The rebound setting also affects the relaxation rate of the suspension spring, determining how quickly it returns to its original position. This feature is crucial for achieving the perfect ride for your car’s suspension system.

Using the integrated compression adjustment wheel located on the lower suspension housing, you can manually fine-tune the compression setting. This feature offers a total of twelve clicks to customize your Mustang SUV’s performance. By opening the compression valve, your car will dive into turns more quickly. However, if you close the compression setting, your Mach-E will be even more supported, providing better stability during turns and greatly improving overall driving safety.

What’s special about the KW multi-valve-technology for compression and rebound is that we use non-adjustable high-speed valves to provide additional damping when driving the Ford Mustang Mach-E over rough roads or bumps. The pre-configured high-speed compression damping allows for quick compression during sudden dips while preventing the tire from losing grip due to overly stiff low-speed compression settings.

An original suspension with adaptive damper control or electronic damper adjustment isn’t an option. Especially when the car owner wants to lower their car.

Installing only a set of lowering springs is definitely not the best idea if you want to improve your driving dynamics together with an maximum drop. In the end, the serial coilovers aren’t made for lowering, which can result in higher wear when installing the spring kit.

When simply replacing an adaptive OEM MacPherson strut with a coilover kit without any adaptive damper control, things become thrilling. Due to the adaption of active steering, the throttle response, ESP control, and many more aspects, an error or an emergency program may occur and all of those functions can be in error mode.

A modification via a software hack doesn’t always work in the long term. We often got feedback that the coded-out error message popped up with every service reset. But is it not possible to install a coilover kit? Yes, it is.

The most obvious option would be to decide on an adaptive coilover kit such as our KW DDC plug & play.

Suppose a so-called adaptive DDC coilover kit is not in your budget or you want to regularly visit race tracks, or another coilover kit suits you better, we recommend our KW electronical suspension cancellation kits (ESC modules).

The KW ESC modules or KW cancellation kits are coils and electronic resistors connected to the damper control’s original suspension plug connection.

When installed, the kits simulate the resistance in the adaptive oem shock absorbers at the electronically adjustable damper valves in the respective coilover setting.

What’s cool about our modules is, that all dynamic programs, such as shifting ratios within automatic transmissions, active steering, ESP control, original exhaust flap control, and many more driving mode adjustments are still work.

Small hint: A ESC module for a 3-series BMW (F30) can’t be installed in a 5-series BMW (F10). By the way, those interested in a decent lowering in combination with the original serial coilover kit with electronic damper control should decide on height-adjustable spring kits or coilover kits of our brands, KW and ST suspensions. Those coilovers were explicitly developed for the serial coilover kits of different cars.

High-revving V10 mid-engine, 5.7 liters displacement, 612 HP, manual six-speed transmission, and a carbon fiber monocoque. The Porsche Carrera GT (980) was always ahead of its time. According to the media, Porsche only delivered 1270 vehicles from 2003 to 2006. Now, we offer a KW coilover kit for the Porsche Carrera GT: The KW V5.

For the Porsche Carrera GT (980) there are two KW V5 coilover kit designs available: Without a hydraulic lift system or with hydraulic KW HLS lifting cylinders included. The “Hydraulic Lift System” (HLS) has the great advantage that it enables the car body to elevate up to 45 millimeters on both axles.

To overcome steep parking garage ramps, site heels on the street, or speed bumps, the Carrera GT lifts to a certain desired height with our HLS.

Lift systems without rubber spring bellows like the HLS offer the advantage that the lift system becomes more compact. There are no drawbacks to the spring rate and driving dynamics like systems with airsprings. Also, no retrofitting of compressors or air tanks is required.

In the installed condition, it is noticeable how compact the HLS is. The necessary hydraulic pump unit and the hydraulic tank are the size of a car battery.

The Porsche Carrera GT gains a plus in driving harmonic with our pre-adjusted damper setup, which is highspeed and lowspeed compression and rebound adjustable.

The KW V5 coilover kit in the Carrera GT dampens minor road irregularities harmonically in the compression. This leads to more relaxing driving behavior. Even when driving over manhole covers, transversal joints, or small street bumps, our coilover kit absorbs concussions reliably – even with short spring travel.

It’s no big deal to adjust the KW damper setup for the Carrera GT to make it more comfortable or sportier. For this, the integrated adjustment wheel is located directly at the damper.

Individual adjustment of highspeed and lowspeed of the KW V5 coilovers with solid piston dampers within 0 to 13 clicks (14 positions). Position zero means maximum KW V5 damper performance, while position 13 represents minimal damper performance.

Instead of a standard mono- or twin-tube damper, we bet on the displacer principle (KW Solid Piston Technology) in our damper design. This principle is also used in the current GT3 and GT4 motorsports. Here, we do not use overflowed pistons which is the case in other shock absorbers.

The hydraulic working area enlarges immensely thanks to the compact design. Thus, we can use smaller piston rods which benefit the compression and rebound damping. We control higher hydraulic forces with a completely new valve design. Moreover, within the Solid Piston principle, we separated the valves from the working piston.

But there are more arguments for the KW V5 coilover kit with Solid Piston technology: Thanks to the Carrera-GT axle geometry with double wishbone and bellcrank (push rod suspension), no wheel-guiding forces happen with the damper.

In addition, lower spring rates are possible in the KW V5 or other coilovers with Solid Piston Technology because the hydraulic has a higher performance.

No matter which setup and on which street, the Porsche Carrera GT with a KW V5 coilover kit inside drives – the KW coilovers act way more dynamic than the serial coilovers.
